Nothing looks more stylish than a smile that’s truly genuine. Recently, I watched a documentary on Netflix called, Happy by Roko Belic. It put some perspective and made me reassess what makes me happy. For a while, I worked two jobs as a Hygienist and Preventive Care Consultant. Being a Preventive Care Consultant required a lot of time and preparation. So I was constantly working and stressed. To help control anxiety, I did acupuncture treatments [btw, acupuncture is sooo relaxing]. A little over a month ago, I made the difficult decision to quit my job as Preventive Care Consultant.
Quitting one of my jobs means less money. With a lower income, I have to be more cautious with my budget, which meant less shopping =( However, there is no dollar amount that can compensate for my sanity and happiness. Though I love clothes, bags, shoes, bags, and makeup, these material things do not define my happiness.
Working one job gives me more time to myself, and to actually figure out what makes smile. To name a few, these things/people bring me joy: Netflix, football, vacuuming, yoga, therapeutic walks, fashion, dancing in my room all by myself, quality time with my friends, boyfriend, and family, 90’s R&B and hip hop, Ellen Degeneres, and sleeping. There are plenty of other things that make me happy.
I have a natural “bitch face”, so people ask me why I’m mad even when I’m not. I’m trying to make it a point to smile more often, especially to strangers. It makes me feel good when they smile back. You never know what a simple smile can do to make someone’s day. Which is probably why one of the enjoy prompts a while back was to smile at passersby!
