Project: #2530Bday Mason Jar Favors

I love mason jars!  They’re so versatile and super cute.  My sister once made sugared almonds as gifts, putting them in mason jars with a ribbon tied around them.  Another time, I made hot chocolate mix in mason jars as Christmas presents.  For Kristiana and my  #2530Bday, I wanted to use mason jars again for favors.

My dilemma was what to put inside.  My coworker introduced me to Chuao chocolates, so I thought the chocopods would be a good idea as favors.  I went to Bottega Italiana in UTC and purchased the two chocopod flavors with blue in their packaging: Firecracker (my FAVORITE) and Sweet and Salty.  When buying mason jars in the grocery store, I spotted TicTacs while in line.  TicTac is Kristiana’s nickname and since one of my nicknames is “Gin”, I decided to get small bottles of gin.

I made 30 mason jar favors for approximately $6.07/each (tax and tip included at various stores):

30 Chuao chocopods for $26.00 ($25 for 30 + $1 tip) at Bottega Italiana UTC
8 packs of 4 TicTacs for $3.29/each at Ralph’s
24 small bottles of gin at $2.49/each or $2.99/each at Bevmo
3 packages of 12 pint size jars at $13.99/each at Ralph’s

I already had cardstock for tag, twine, and Washi tape (used for the first time since receiving it as a gift by April!)  I used blue Washi tape around the caps and on the favor tags.  After placing all the contents inside the jars, I had help tying white twine around each jar.  Simple, no?

We had a extras of a few items so we gave ones with contents to an awesome waiter and waitress at Ballast Point and Kristiana’s boyfriend Chris took the empty mason jars.  Do you love using mason jars as favors and gifts as much as I do?  If so, what have you made or used them for?

Enjoy Ginet
