The dining room is next to the living room and kitchen.

The sliding doors lead to a sideyard where we place our garbage and recycling bins.

The dining table and chandelier are a bit contemporary for me.  My brother really wanted this dining set, that came with a buffet, when we first moved into our townhome.  I never really wanted it and after nine years, I think I deserve a new set!  Plus, the screws on the legs of the chairs always get loose, the table has been chipped and scratched from the various moves it’s been through, and did I mention I never really liked it?  The chandelier came with the home, but like the rest of the lighting throughout the house, it doesn’t go with the style I want for my home.

From the dining room, there’s an opening to the kitchen.  The galley-style heart of the home is right in the middle of the house.  I like the shaker style white cabinets, but it’s obvious they need to be replaced.  I see the kitchen as a total gut job and I would love – LOVE – to take down the walls.

The oven range is decent, except it’s not flushed between the countertops and it slopes down at the back.  I purchased countertop spill guards from Home Depot (here’s similar in Amazon.com) to help prevent crumbs going through the gaps.

I really like the bay window and I love how big and deep the sink is!  Coming from an apartment with a shallow sink, I don’t think I can go back.  It makes it super easy to clean my Les Creuset!  My aunt gave me my first plant for my new home as a Christmas gift.  I got the birdcage from Michael’s for my sister-in-law’s bridal shower.

My Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, along with Les Creuset, was a wedding gift and I stole my mom gave me the copper canisters.

Knocking the walls down and *hopefully getting rid of the soffit will surely open up the whole lower level of the house significantly.  Until we can actually renovate, I’ll keep dreaming… and working on the rest of the house!

I thought about changing out the hardware as a quick temporary fix, but I’d rather focus on other areas of the home.  I might want to change the kitchen sink light sooner though!

Anyone notice the dining room in the background of the kitchen photos?  Yes, my husband agreed to buying a new dining table and chairs!  Consider this your sneak peek!
