I won’t show my sister’s bedroom, which is the second spare bedroom. Her bedroom is super cute and the most finished, but I haven’t taken any photos of it and I’ll leave her privacy to herself (for now).
We’ll start downstairs in the half-bath/powder room. I like the molding around the window… aaand that’s about it!
Well, the toilet can stay. I have no issues with you, dear toilet. You can take a deep sigh of relief. A couple months ago, we discovered a mold issue from a disgusting mushroom growing on the ground behind the toilet. I didn’t take a photo of it but you can just google “mushroom mold” if you’re curious enough. I won’t do so because it gives me the heebie-jeebies just picturing it my head!
There used to be wainscoting throughout the bottom half of the walls, but we decided to go with drywall after the repairs. You can see leftover wainscoting on the side that the repairmen forgot to take out (we opted for a small refund in lieu of them coming back to finish the job).
I’d like to gut the powder room, getting a pedestal sink, new lighting, mirror, and adding shelves above the toilet for storage.
If you love brown, then you’ll love this bathroom! Or not. Can I just say how much I abhor the countertop tiles?! I can’t even tell if the counter is dirty even after it gets cleaned, which could be a good thing if you aren’t a germaphobe and you only care about appearances. But then if you really care about appearances, you wouldn’t want this countertop. I, for one, am a semi-germaphobe and care about appearances. Arguably, this is an ugly countertop. You don’t see the tile floors (it’s the same ones used in my master bathroom that will be on the next post), but I hate them too. I also am irritated that you can’t close or open the door without having to move the bathroom rug because the tiles are too high. It seems like whoever installed didn’t bother removing the previous flooring. I suppose we’ll find out if/when we get to that point. Ok, I’m babblng…
I’d like to replace the vanity, tile flooring, tub (if budget permits), and tile surrounding the tub. Basically another gut! I hope I win the lotto soon.
Alright, nothing too exciting in our spare bedroom. We currently use it as an office (where I blog to my hearts delight!), workout room (T25 and yoga!), and storage (for most of my crafts!). Look how cute the folding chair is! One of my sister’s best friends spray painted a reupholstered it for her. I asked my sister if I can use it so thank you to the both of you! I’m aiming to be that crafty and DIY-ey. Both the bookshelf and desk are from Crate and Barrel. Since I got them over six years ago, they are no longer available. Here’s a similar desk in black and white, as well as similar leaning shelves in white, mocha, and gray from Crate and Barrel. However, this and this are most similar to my shelves.
We have yet to have any guests, but they’d probably end up sleeping on the floor or an air bed because we don’t plan on furnishing this room further any time soon. We see it as a future nursery. If anything, I’d like to replace the fan with a pretty light fixture and add curtains. Oh yeah and finally hang that framed poster I’ve had for over ten years… I know, I know, I’m sort of a sucky decorator!
Alright, as always I’m open to suggestions to spruce these rooms up for the time being! How are you liking the tour so far? Maybe just as much as I’m hating the bathroom tiles – which means you’re liking the tour a lot! It ends with the master bedroom and bathroom, which is next up, so hopefully you have been enjoying. After the tour, I’ll let you know of some updates that have been happening since last month! Please stay tuned
