This is my first post for 2014 and I would like to greet you all with a HAPPY NEW YEAR! My New Year’s Eve was very low key this year. Ranelle and I went to Buca di Beppo for dinner, but when we got there we were told the wait was an hour and a half so we decided to order for to-go and head back home. We rang in the new year in comfortable clothes on the couch with some beer from Hess Brewery and our pitbull Nala. With all the different specials on TV that nights we chose to watch the ball drop on NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly. Although it was a low key night I made sure that my nails were festive and had a little sparkle. I decided to go with a glitter sandwich manicure. Here’s a quick recap of how I achieved this look.
A glitter sandwich or jelly sandwich manicure is done by using a layer of glitter nail polish in between two layers of nail polish. I used Milani’s Rad Purple and Deborah Lippman’s Happy Birthday. The best type of nail polish for this look is one with a jelly finish (translucent or jello-like). If you use an opaque nail polish then you won’t be able to see the glitter.
I painted one coat of Rad Purple. Since this is the bottom layer, I wasn’t concerned with it being streaky or uneven. I’ve noticed that any nail polish that is labelled “Neon” drys quickly and has a satin or matte finish. This was definitely the case with Rad Purple.
Next, I painted a coat of Happy Birthday and I made sure to get a lot of glitter pieces on each nail.
One more coat of Rad Purple and were are almost done! Even though I painted over the glitter, we can still see it and now, the glitter looks suspended within the jelly nail polish.
Lastly, I finished off with some quick drying Poshe top coat to get my nails really shiny.
That’s it! Quick and easy! I rocked these nails the whole week #NOTW
How did you all spend your New Year’s Eve?
